Bishop of Iceland Karl Sigurbjornsson gave an address yesterday at a course held by the National Church of Iceland at Neskirkja church in Reykjavik on reactions to sexual violations within religious associations.

Sigurbjornsson declared that he is deeply sorry for mistakes that were made in the treatment of cases of sexual violations of whom late Bishop Olafur Skulason is accused, and said he prayed that everyone would learn from these mistakes, Frettabladid reports.

Dr. Marie M. Fortune, who specializes in reactions to sexual violations within religious association, has taught the course’s attendees about the right response when such matters come up.

Information officer at the Bishop’s Office, Arni Svanur Danielsson, said Sigurbjornsson is pleased with her visit. “He will meet Fortune twice this week and review the cases [of abuse],” Danielsson commented. “He is very thankful for her contribution to the National Church’s work on these matters.” In an earlier report, Fortune said it might be best if the bishop resigned
