Organizers expected thousands of Penn State students to attend a candlelight vigil tonight for the alleged victims of a sex abuse scandal engulfing the university.

The vigil, planned for the lawn outside the university's administration building, Old Main, is being held to "show respect and support" for the children allegedly assaulted by former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, according to a statement by its organizers.

"The vigil will feature everyday students and alumni who will speak to the victims and Penn State community about the recent allegations and what it means to be a Penn Stater," the organizers, Jessica Sever and Kyle Harris, said.

The vigil, scheduled to run from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., will also feature a brief moment of silence, "to honor those victims affected by the scandal," Sever and Harris said.

Their goal, they said, is to illuminate the full lawn with candles - a sharp contrast to the scene near there Wednesday, when students rioted following the firing of football coach Joe Paterno, who said he wished he "had done more" in reporting an abuse allegation to the authorities.

Sandusky's book, 'Touched,' still on sale

Despite the scandal, the Penn State campus bookstore continued to carry copies Thursday of the Jerry Sandusky autobiography with the retroactively ironic title, "Touched."

Ten copies of the book sat on a shelf in the "local interest" section of the store.

A store manager was said to be in a meeting and did not return a telephone message seeking an answer to the question, "Why is the store still carrying Sandusky's book?"

A secretary for the manager, Steve Falke, told a reporter that the company that operates the store, Barnes & Noble, discouraged them from answering scandal-related questions.

Schultz's name stripped from child care center

University workers Thursday morning removed the name of a former vice president charged in the sex abuse case from a campus child care center.

The 21,500-square-foot center, located at the corner of Park Avenue and Allen Road had been called the Gary Schultz Child Care Center at Hort Woods.

Prosecutors charged Schultz last week with lying to a grand jury and failing to report allegations of sexual abuse against Sandusky to the authorities.
