The New York City non-profit The Fresh Air Fund sent at least one child to stay at the home of former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky in the mid-1990s, and says it may have sent several others.

"Based on our initial review of our files, we have determined that the Sandusky family was a Fresh Air Fund host," a spokesperson told CBS News. "We have confirmed that one Fresh Air Fund child stayed at the Sandusky home in the mid-1990s."

The Fresh Air Fund provides free summer vacations to low-income children aged six to 18, according to the organization's website.

The organization is still in the process of reviewing its files prior to the 1990s, but said that it is possible that multiple children may have stayed with the Sandusky family at their home in State College, Pennsylvania. "As of today we believe that several children may have stayed in the Sandusky home in the 1970s."

Sandusky, 67, was charged on Nov. 5 with 40 counts of child sexual abuse over a 15 year period. He has denied the charges.

The Fresh Air Fund says it has shared information about the one confirmed child with the Pennsylvania and New York authorities.
