PROSPECT, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- State Police have confirmed that they had been investigating Reverend Robert Carlson prior to his death on Sunday, but what about they will not say. That investigation began last Thursday at the request of the Penobscot County District Attorneys office.

Meanwhile, the Waldo County Sheriff's Department is heading up the investigation of Reverend Carlson's death at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge early Sunday morning. Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton says around 4:00 AM Sunday morning a woman traveling across the bridge called in and said there was a car abandoned halfway across the bridge in the breakdown lane. When deputies arrived they found identification belonging to reverend Carlson in the vehicle. A search was conducted and Carlson's body was found in the Penobscot River below.
