STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - -

Mike McQueary told a friend from Penn State that he stopped an alleged assault by Jerry Sandusky on a 10-year-old boy in 2002 and went to the police about it.

In the email dated Nov. 8th from McQueary's Penn State account and made available to The Associated Press by his friend on Tuesday, the assistant coach writes that he stopped the sexual assault and discussed it with police afterward.

In the email, McQueary writes, "I am getting hammered for handling this the right way... or what I thought at the time was right."

He said he had to make quick, tough decisions. Sandusky, a retired Penn State assistant coach, is accused of sexually assaulting eight boys over a 15-year span.
