The Lowcountry Children’s Center was the first to contact police last month about accusations against former principal and camp counseler Louis “Skip” Reville.

“This is an important opportunity for people to understand how widespread this risk of child sexual abuse is,” Executive Director Dr. Libby Ralston said.

This week the Citadel admittedly said they did not do enough to stop Reville when accusations against him were brought to their attention in 2007.

“Only he [Reville] is responsible for what he did- allegedly did- but I can tell you that by not doing enough we play a critical role in the events,” Lt. Gen. John Rosa, Citadel President said Monday.

In South Carolina, the law states that only certain professions are obligated by law to report sexual abuse.

“Clearly everyone needs to take responsibilty to report it and when we have a law that doesn't define it as such and there are loopholes people hide in those loopholes,” Dr. Ralston said.

Since Reville's arrest last month the number of victims continues to increase. As publications have linked him to numerous schools and athletics around the Lowcountry there's atleast five victims pressing charges against him and police say they expect many more. Because of awareness, many more victims are willing to come out of the shadows.

“The news has been very helpful in terms of encouraging adults to come forward, it's given people like us the opportunity to say please adults take this serious and whether you're a mandated reporter or not, it's your ethical and moral responsibility to come forward,” Dr. Ralston said.
