SAN MATEO COUNTY - A 72-year-old man convicted of molesting a 15-year-old Aptos boy on a church trip a decade ago was sentenced Tuesday to prison time on separate charges of molesting several other boys, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Anthony Falco was sentenced to 14 years in prison on 18 counts of child molestation and a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti.

Falco had posed as friar in the Aptos case and was arrested in Daly City in the current case, authorities said.

In the late 1990s, Falco came to Santa Cruz County and duped local Catholics into believing he belonged to a New York state brotherhood of monks, which did not exist, prosecutors said.
