References to Camp Good News being nationally accredited have been removed from the camp's website as of Tuesday morning.

The camp, rocked by a sex-abuse scandal last April, had its accreditation revoked by the American Camp Association. To date, 16 alleged victims of sexual abuse at the hands of camp staff, dating back to the 1960s, have hired two Boston lawyers. A criminal investigation by the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office is ongoing.

In an announcement about the reopening Monday, camp officials stated that Camp Good News is accredited by two national organizations. The information was removed after a Times reporter pointed out the references to the organizations.

Jon Fitch, a Sandwich lawyer who represents Camp Good News, said the information about accreditation was included accidentally.

"That was an error and it's being corrected," he said.
