In the wake of the Penn State scandal and several other cases of sexual abuse making national headlines, there are now reports of abuse here in the Tri-State.

A Henderson County Youth Pastor was arrested Friday after Henderson Police were tipped off earlier this month about his alleged inappropriate behavior with children. 42-year-old John Brothers Junior is charged with two counts of first degree sexual abuse. Church members were brief in talking about the alleged abuse saying how shocking the news is but more importantly they say the church must continue to move forward. Frank Chandler is the Deacon Chairman at Hyland Baptist Church. He spoke with Local 7 on the church's behalf.

Henderson police say they began investigating Brothers about a month ago after officials say there were allegations of inappropriate behavior between Brothers and multiple children. Brothers was an Assistant Pastor at Hyland for three and a half years. He resigned on November 7th sending a letter to the church citing the demands of his duties as a pastor had become a challenge to him physically, mentally spiritually and emotionally. On November 18th, police interviewed Brothers then arrested him. Despite these disturbing allegations, the church says service must continue. Lieutenant Stauffer says the victims are always the department's main concern. Officials say its unknown if the children were members of the church or just visiting. They also are looking into if the alleged abuse happened on church grounds.

Brothers could face up to ten years in prison for those two counts of sexual abuse. He's being held in the Henderson County Detention Center and is set to appear in court on November 22nd.
