Fr Reynolds settled a defamation case with RTÉ in recent days

The Solicitor for defamed priest Fr Kevin Reynolds has said that he would like to know the source of allegations made about his client on RTÉ's Prime Time.

Robert Dore said if there is a "loose cannon" who was prepared to make malicious allegations about his clients, there is nothing to say they could not do the same again against another innocent individual.

He also said Fr Kevin Reynolds is entitled to know who the person who made the allegations is.

Mr Dore said that the premise of journalistic confidentiality does not apply in this case and he said he is confident the law would support him pursuing the identity of the source.

He described a defence of journalistic confidentiality in this instance as "flawed".

He said RTÉ had behaved appallingly by continuing to insist the allegations were true up until the results of a paternity test proved Fr Reynolds had not fathered a child as had been alleged.

He described RTÉ's handling of the case up until it admitted it was in the wrong as "shocking".

When asked what Fr Reynolds' mood was Mr Dore he is as pleased as he can be following the case.

He said he had taken part in a wedding ceremony for a family member last week and was a "very happy man doing that".
