When former Roman Catholic Priest William Casey is sentenced Wednesday in Sullivan County Criminal Court for sex abuse crimes he committed against Warren Tucker more than 30 years ago in Kingsport, members of a support group will be by the victim's side.

Susan Vance, a member of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), said Monday that Tucker is preparing to travel from his Indiana home near Louisville, Ky., to be in the Blountville courtroom Wednesday and give a victim impact statement before Casey is sentenced.

"His spirits are pretty good. He hopes basically that this will be the last trip from his home in Indiana," Vance said. "It has been grueling for him, and I admire him for having the courage to go through with it."

Casey, 77, was convicted July 14 of one count of first-degree criminal sexual misconduct and two counts of aggravated rape, for crimes committed against Tucker in the late 1970s and 1980 in Kingsport.
