The news from Rome that Cardinal Bernard Law is stepping down from his Vatican appointment caught many by surprise.

For victims of church sex abuse, it raises new questions.

Guest Bernie McDaid was among three victims of priest abuse who met with the Pope during his visit to the United States in 2008. In October of 2010, McDaid and thousands of abuse victims attended Reformation Day in Rome.

“He should have stepped down in 2002 and kept going basically. He should never have had a cushy job in Rome,” said McDaid of Law’s resignation.

McDaid said he has had several private meetings with Law, one of which he brought his mother, too.

“I helped open up the Boston scourge here,” said McDaid of how his mother was treated following his announcement that he was abused.

To see what else McDaid had to say, watch his interview with Jim Braude.
