Local Catholic officials expressed their sympathies for the victim of William Casey as the former priest was sentenced to prison Wednesday.

Warren Tucker told Knoxville church officials in April 2010 that Casey had molested him as a teenage altar boy at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Kingsport while Casey was senior priest there in the 1970s.

Bishop Richard F. Stika of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville notified the district attorney general's office and local law enforcement of the allegations, and suspended Casey from his duties.

At the time, Casey was a priest of the Diocese of Nashville serving East Tennessee.

Casey later was permanently removed from the priesthood after admitting to Stika that Tucker's claims were true.

"Our primary concern has always been for Warren Tucker, who brought Mr. Casey's crimes to our attention," Stika said in a news release Wednesday. "We pray and hope that this sentencing brings him healing, and we pray for all who may have been harmed by sexual abuse."
