THE man who told RTE's 'Prime Time Investigates' that he was sexually abused by a deceased Christian Brother is standing over his allegation.

Relatives of Brother Gerard Dillon have questioned the accusations carried in the 'Mission to Prey' programme that wrongly accused Galway priest Fr Kevin Reynolds of fathering a child and led to a massive libel settlement.

But Tyrone Selmon, who has an interior design business in South Africa, told the Irish Independent what he said was the truth.

And he said the relatives of Br Dillon have not contacted him to query his claims.

"I had no idea that my name was going to be plastered all over Irish TV," Mr Selmon said.

Mr Selmon said the abuse against him as a child occurred in the 1980s, but he could not remember what age he was.

He also declined to go into the details of the allegation in a telephone interview.

Mr Selmon said he was not out to make any gain from the allegations, but insisted he only wanted to tell his story to ensure children were listened to.

"I don't know why his family haven't contacted me," he said.

"I think that the Catholic Church thought that I was in it to be able to sue them and get money.

"I really and truly did it so that other children don't get abused and don't get not listened to."

Mr Selmon said he was contacted by RTE to verify the allegations.

"He said to me that something had happened and do I stand by what I had said -- and yeah, why wouldn't I? I have no reason to have lied. It's a very, very long time ago."
