Former church custodian Jose Feliciano will be testifying today in his murder trial in the slaying of a Chatham priest.

Superior Court Judge Thomas Manahan, sitting in Morristown, announced this morning that Feliciano will be taking the witness stand.

Manahan asked Feliciano if he’s had enough time to “consider” his decision.

“Yes sir,” Feliciano answered softly adding that it is “my decision.”

Feliciano is accused in the Oct. 22, 2009 stabbing death of the Rev. Edward Hinds of St. Patrick Church in Chatham.

Feliciano’s public defender, Neill Hamilton, has admitted that Feliciano stabbed Hinds but said he was provoked and that it was a manslaughter not a murder.
