WILLARD, Mo. -- A Willard man claiming he was abused by pedophile priests as a boy will talk about his ordeal in front of the Springfield Diocese Offices on Wednesday. Joe Eldred says he wants Springfield's Bishop to encourage others to come forward.
Eldred is suing 3 priests for alleged abuse in the Kansas City area in the 1980's while he lived there. One of them, Monsignor Thomas O'Brien, worked at St. Agnes Church in Springfield from 1951 to 1954. Eldred says O'Brien seduced him with marijuana, alcohol and pornography, and had sex with him in the church sanctuary and the priests residence several times.
When O'Brien worked at St. Agnes, The Springfield Catholic Diocese had not been established yet.
