DETROIT, MI (WTOL) – The Archdiocese of Detroit announced plans Thursday to close nine parishes and merge 60 others in the next five years. The changes could have an impact on five parishes in southern Monroe County.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Temperance will have to share a priest and staff with another parish.

St. Anthony in Temperance and St. Joe's in Erie would also share a priest and staff.

St. Irene in Dundee will be asked to merge with St. Joe's in Ida.

The recommendations were made by more than 1500 lay members of all parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit who studied them for a year.
