	Accuser Motivated by Cash, Claims Ex-Priest Belfast Telegraph December 3, 2011 http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/accuser-motivated-by-cash-claims-expriest-16086049.html A former priest accused of a string of sex offences allegedly committed against a teenage altar boy told police officers the victim could be "motivated by money", a jury has heard. The Belfast Crown Court jury heard that 53-year-old James Martin Donaghy claimed during police interviews in relation to allegations made by the victim: "I also think it's maybe motivated by money. He spoke to me on two occasions that he had no money and that I had plenty of money." Donaghy, from Lady Wallace Drive in Lisburn, denies 26 charges involving the alleged sexual abuse and indecent assault of three males between June 1983 and December 2000, including Fr Patrick McCafferty, James Doherty and the former altar boy. The police interviews related exclusively to claims made by the ex-altar boy who gave evidence that he was abused from around 1994 until 2000. Giving evidence to the court, Detective Constable Gordon read out interview transcripts where the alleged victim's claims were put to the former priest. At every opportunity given to him to respond, Donaghy denied his alleged victim's account, telling officers it was "absolutely untrue". The trial continues.
