A Memorial-area church and its pastor are being sued over allegations they failed to report the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl in order to protect themselves.

Jane Doe filed a lawsuit on Dec. 2 in Harris County District Court against Memorial-area Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston and Rev. David McKechnie, citing assault by offensive physical contact, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, breach of confidential relationship, conspiracy to breach confidential relationship, intentional infliction of emotional distress, fraud, fraudulent concealment, negligence and negligent misrepresentation.

Doe alleges that as a 15-year-old girl in 1990, a Church of Houston associate youth pastor sexually abused her while on a religious mission trip to West Virginia. According to the brief, Doe and her parents reported the incident to McKechnie, who chose to not report the abuse to police.

Doe is seeking actual and punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Daniel Shea.
