A bail review hearing on a popular Catholic priest accused of child molestation was rescheduled today for Dec. 19.

The Rev. Uriel Ojeda's attorney, Jesse Ortiz, asked for the continuance so that he could review additional reports in the case.

Ojeda, 32, is accused on seven counts of lewd and lascivious acts with an underage girl. She was 14 when the contact began, authorities said. The offenses took place over the next two years, according to investigators.

An estimated 40 people showed up at the Sacramento Superior Court jail division for Ojeda's appearance today in front of Judge Marjorie Koller.

The supporters said the rosary in Spanish outside the courtroom prior to Ojeda's brief appearance. Ojeda stood in the courtroom holding cell shackled in chains.

"We're here to support him," said Veronica Lopez of Winters. "We all have faith in God and with our prayers we can keep it up."

Ojeda served in the Holy Rosary Parish in Woodland and Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Redding before he was booked into the downtown Sacramento jail last Wednesday.
