A Catholic school principal was escorted off the premises and a letter is sent home to parents on Tuesday in the Philadelphia suburbs.

Students apparently made allegations against principal Dennis Reitano during a "safe environment class" at Saint Madeline Saint Rose School in Ridley Park, Pa.

It is Reitano's fourth year at the school. He's been employed at several schools in the Philadelphia archdiocese since the 1980s.

Parents arriving at Saint Madeline were stunned to learn the principal had been put on administrative leave.

A letter sent home to parents said Reitano was relieved of his duties and escorted out of the building Monday afternoon after questions about his actions were raised by students in a safe environment class.

The archdiocese said school officials did notify the Delaware County district attorney immediately. Counselors were brought in to meet with students.

The district attorney's office says it was made aware of the information and has asked the Ridely Park police chief to look into it and report back to the district attorney

In a statement, the archdiocese confirmed a letter was sent to parents that said, "Nothing is more important to all of us at Saint Madeline - Saint Rose School than the safety and security of your children. We are all committed to creating a healthy academic environment for the children."
