The president of DeSmet Jesuit High School asked the Creve Coeur school's alumni Thursday to come forward with any complaints they have about a former coach and teacher who has been accused of sexual abuse by a former student.

The accused man was not a priest. In an email to alumni, the Rev. Wally Sidney said the alleged abuse by the coach — who worked at DeSmet from 1970 to 1979 — did not take place on school property.

Sidney said that school officials had reported the accusation to law enforcement officials and that an investigation was under way. A call to the Creve Coeur Police Department was not immediately returned Thursday.

"We are reaching out to our alumni to let you know of this allegation, and to assist with healing any alumnus who believes he may have been abused," Sidney wrote.
