SALINAS, Calif- A warrant was issued for a former Salinas priest because he failed to register as a sex offender, said Rolando Mazariegos, a deputy district attorney.

Antonio Cortes was released from jail on November 15 and has not registered as a sex offender or provided a change of address, said Mazariegos.

Cortes pleaded no contest to sexually molesting a teenage boy while he was working at St. Mary of the Nativity Church.

Mazariegos said that Cortes' attorney, Miguel Hernandez, said in court Wednesday that his client was in Mexico.
