A former Calloway County pastor, already convicted and sentenced for the sexual abuse of a minor under 12 years of age, now faces three additional sexual abuse charges.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Dean Patterson, a spokesman for KSP Post 1 in Mayfield, said Thursday that Robert Meredith, 50, of Murray-Paris Road, was charged Wednesday with three additional counts of first-degree sexual abuse. The charges stem from information obtained by KSP regarding an alleged additional victim. Patterson said the investigation led to three indictments against Meredith, who was scheduled for arraignment on the new charges in Calloway Circuit Court this morning. He remains lodged in Calloway County Jail, according to Patterson.

Meredith was initially charged Aug. 9 with first degree sexual abuse of a minor under 12 years of age. He pleaded guilty to that charge in November in exchange for an eight-year prison sentence. During court action in November, Circuit Judge Dennis Foust additionally sentenced Merideth to five-years conditional discharge after his release from prison. As part of a plea agreement with Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Blankenship, Meredith must also register as a sex offender for 20 years after his release, participate in a sex offender treatment program and have no contact with the juvenile victim or the victim’s family. He must also make restitution and must provide the state a DNA sample to be placed in permanent record.
