The Cloyne report has now been published in full. A chapter which had been withheld was published this afternoon.

The final chapter of the Cloyne report to be published illustrates the failure of the diocese of Cloyne to deal properly with allegations of child sexual abuse up until 2008.

Chapter nine of the Cloyne Report deals with the complaints made against "Fr Ronat", a pseudonym for the priest concerned.

The report was published last July - but chapter 9 was redacted as it could have prejudiced a criminal trial which has since been resolved.

In it, the commission of investigation concluded that

Complaints about Father Ronat were not reported to the gardai when they should have been

Were not reported to the HSE until 2008

No proper church investigations of the complaints were carried out

And a Canonical process ordered in 1995 was stalled for 14 years

The report also found that then Bishop of Cloyne John Magee ignored complaints against Father Ronat.

Helplines have been set up for victims of abuse, but they say the timing of the publication could not have been worse.
