The lawyer for a janitor on trial for murdering a New Jersey priest tells jurors his client was sexually victimized by the priest for years.

Jose Feliciano has admitted stabbing Rev. Edward Hinds in Chatham two years ago. But Feliciano claims Hinds sexually extorted him by keeping quiet about Feliciano's criminal past in exchange for sexual favors.

In closing arguments Monday, defense attorney Neill Hamilton told jurors Hinds knew as far back as 2004 that Feliciano had a criminal charge in Philadelphia years earlier.

He showed jurors a large kitchen knife from a drawer in the rectory. Feliciano used a much smaller knife, Hamilton said, proving the crime was committed in the heat of passion and not with premeditation.

The prosecution is scheduled to give its closing argument Tuesday afternoon.
