Catholic Priest Denies Abuse Charges

A CATHOLIC priest accused of sexually abusing young boys in Staffordshire is set to go on trial today. Alexander Bede Walsh - who has pleaded not guilty to 23 indecent assaults and two serious sexual assaults - will appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The 57-year-old was arrested following a lengthy investigation by detectives and the Crown Prosecution Service into his work at a North Staffordshire church. The Newsletter revealed in January last year that Walsh later worked as a chef at Aston Hall, Stone - a home for retired and convalescent priests in Aston-by-Stone between November 2009 and January 2011.
