New Name: Office of Child and Youth Protection

The office charged with promoting a secure environment for young people under diocesan auspices has changed its name. It will now be known as the Office of Child and Youth Protection. It was formerly known as the Office of Safe Environment for Children, Youth and Adults.

The change went into effect Feb. 1.

The change was implemented, according to Rod J. Herrera, director, to “more accurately reflect what the office does in providing safe environments for children and young people.”

The name change reflects the 2002 Charter approved by the U.S. bishops intended to protect youth who participate in church programs, noted Herrera.
