OSHKOSH - Former Catholic priest Norbert Maday will spend at least the next nine months at a secure treatment facility run by the state department of health.

"I certainly think the public is served by this yes, he needs the treatment and I do think the risk is high, he needs that treatment," said special prosecutor Kevin Greene.

In Winnebago County Court, Maday agreed to be committed. This after Maday spent 13 years in prison on a second-degree sexual assault conviction in 1994.

"He has always considered it unfair that he was tried here in Oshkosh and he has stated that he never did anything inappropriate in Oshkosh," said Maday's attorney Ralph Sczygelski.

But in court even Maday himself told a different story.

"The wrongs I did were done out of weakness," said Maday.

Prosecutors say Maday needs more treatment because he won't fully admit he did anything wrong.

"Mr. Maday has not admitted at least all of the behavior, he admits certain aspects, he won't come out and admit certain conduct," said Greene.

"We're just committing what we call a mortal sin and we're sorry because of the weakness that allowed us to do it," said Maday.

Under terms of the deal Maday will be re-evaluated in nine months. If he is not released, he will be re-evaluated every 12 months after that.
