The Rev. Kevin J. Gray has been transferred to Maryland to serve his three-year prison sentence for larceny, according to Department of Correction records. Police say Gray stole more than $1 million from his parish over the past seven years, spending the money on luxury items while falsely telling people he had cancer. Gray appeared with his public defender Dennis Harrigan during this court hearing in 2010. Republican-American archive photo

A former city priest at the center of a scandal that rocked the Sacred Heart/Sagrado Corazon Church has been paroled to Maryland, according to Department of Correction records.

The Rev. Kevin Gray convinced a parole board in October to release him from prison early before he had completed a three-year prison sentence for larceny.

Gray served as a priest in Waterbury for more than 20 years, leading St. Margaret's Church and St. Cecilia's Church.
