A FORMER Termonfeckin and Drogheda based priest has been caught up in a storm over lewd pictures appearing in a First Communion presentation.

Fr. Martin Mcveigh was beginning a talk at a school in Pomeroy, Co. Tyrone, when the images were accidently shown on the screen. The presentation was abandoned. Fr Mcveigh, who is from Dungannon, was ordained in 1976 and served as curate in Termonfeckin parish from September 1976 to 1981.

He moved to Drogheda in 1981 and spent five years there.

He later went to Westminster in London and back to Pomeroy where he is presently based.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, he said he had no knowledge of how the images appeared and would be making no comment until an investigation was complete.

In a statement from Cardinal Sean Brady, he said that on the evening of Monday, March 26, at a meeting of parents in a primary school in the Archdiocese, inappropriate imagery was inadvertantly shown by a priest at the beginning of a Powerpoint presentation, causing concern to those present. 'This was immediately removed from the screen. 'The priest has stated that he had no knowledge of the offending imagery.

'The priest is co-operating with an investigation of the matter on the part of the Archdiocese'.

The PSNI, on the evidence available, said no crime had been committed.
