West Monroe Police assisted Colorado authorities Friday in the arrest of a former Kentucky youth pastor wanted in Colorado on multiple burglary and sexual assault on a child charges.

West Monroe Police Cpl. Jade Gabb said police assisted Routt County Sheriff's deputies from Steamboat Springs, Colo. in arresting John H. Brothers Jr., 43, on Friday.

Brothers was arrested at 1001 Otis St. in West Monroe without incident and was taken to Ouachita Correctional Center where he awaits extradition to Colorado.

Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins expects Brothers will be transported to Colorado by Tuesday night.

He faces eight charges of first-degree burglary, eight charges of sexual assault on a child, and seven charges of sexual assault.

Brothers was wanted in Colorado for crimes against a child. Wiggins said he couldn't comment on the case until he discusses it with his detectives. He said more information would be released Wednesday after Brothers arrives in Colorado.

Brothers was arrested in 2011 in Kentucky on charges of first-degree sexual abuse of two juveniles who were members of his former church, Hyland Baptist Church in Henderson County, Ky.

He resigned from the church and moved to live with relatives in West Monroe in 2011.

Wiggins said the allegations of sexual abuse to a child in Colorado are not associated with a church.

"The venue where these crimes took place doesn't appear to be related to any church," Wiggins said.

Wiggins said Colorado officials are aware of Brothers' arrest in Henderson County, Ky., but he's not aware of the status of that case.

"I'm sure he'll be shuttled back and forth as it goes through the courts," Wiggins said.

Officials with the Henderson Police Department did not return phone calls Monday.
