he Church has created a child protection service to combat paedophilia. Vatican spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, in a statement broadcast by Vatican Radio, explained: "The healing of wounds, purification and prevention after the sex abuse crisis needs to be consolidated throughout the Church with the commitment of the various bishops' conferences, in order to become a true service for the whole of society for the protection of minors." The spokesman added: "We hope that the process of renewal of the Church in Ireland after the Apostolic Visit continues and is strengthened thanks to the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin. . .
