A priest who resigned from the Boston College board of trustees following criticism of his supervision of a former Jesuit priest convicted of child sexual abuse has resigned from the board of Brebeuf Jesuit in Indianapolis.

The Rev. Bradley Schaeffer had cut his ties with the preparatory school and has stepped down from boards at Georgetown University and Loyola University of Chicago.

The Boston Globe reported that Schaeffer allowed Donald McGuire to continue ministry despite complaints about McGuire's behavior with boys in the early 1990s when Schaeffer led the Chicago Jesuit Province.

He has expressed "deep regret" for failing to stop McGuire, who was sentenced in 2009 to a 25-year-term in federal prison for repeatedly molesting a 13-year-old boy.

Schaeffer could not be reached for comment.
