The vigil was organised by We Are Church Ireland, which is seeking reform in the Catholic Church

Those taking part said they were committed Catholics who wished to show their solidarity with the priests, who they say are articulating the views of the majority of Irish Catholics.

The vigil, which took place outside the residence of the Papal Nuncio in Dublin, was organised by We Are Church Ireland, an organisation which is pressing for reform in the Catholic Church.

The group handed in a letter to the Nuncio calling for the revocation of the silencing of the priests by the congregation for the doctrine of the faith, which they said "punished these men without due process and through secretive procedures with no right to appeal".

Those attending the vigil included some priests and members of religious orders.
