A former Kingsport and Knoxville priest is appealing a rape conviction he received last year.

William Casey is appealing a conviction to the state Criminal Court of Appeals.

He is currently serving 35 to 40 years behind bars for sexually molesting a teen more than three decades ago.

Last July, a jury convicted Casey of molesting his former altar boy Warren Tucker between 1978 and 1980.

He could be eligible for parole after serving 10 to 12 years.

He pleaded guilty to crimes against nature in North Carolina two years ago, but maintains his innocence in the Sullivan County case.
