LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A Calcasieu Parish grand jury has indicted a former priest on charges accusing him of sexually abusing three boys between July 1, 1986, and July 1, 1991.
Mark Broussard, 56, was charged Thursday on two counts of rape, three of molesting a juvenile, two each of aggravated sexual battery and aggravated oral sexual battery, and one of sexual battery, The American Press (http://bit.ly/PeuuaF) reported.
He was booked on 224 counts. The ten in the indictment were the first brought before a grand jury.
Broussard is being held at the Calcasieu Correctional Center in lieu of $3.4 million bond.
The indictment did not say at which church the alleged crimes occurred, but authorities have previously said they happened while Broussard served at Our Lady Queen of Heaven and at St. Henry Catholic churches.
According to the indictment one boy was abused between the ages of 10 and 13, the second between the ages of 9 and 21, and the third from age of 10 until he was 12.
Broussard served at Our Lady Queen of Heaven from 1986 to 1988 and at St. Henry from 1988 to 1992. He then moved to St. Eugene Catholic Church in Grand Chenier, where he served until he left the priesthood in 1994.
Broussard was living in Duson when he was arrested.
