The 76-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five counts of indecent assault between 1979 and 1981. The court heard two 11-year-old boys were invited into the accused's house on the premise of delivering leaflets and were abused.

A 13-year-old boy was indecently assaulted after being photographed for a parish magazine. One victim, aged about 12 years old, was abused at school.

One night, he came into her room and sexually assaulted her, and on two occasions he raped her.

Cyprus junk credit rating

CREDIT ratings agency Moody's has downgraded Cyprus deeper into junk territory over fears about the amount of government support needed to prop up the country's stricken banks.

Moody's said that it had taken the country's score down by three notches to B3. It warned that the needs of Cyprus's three largest lenders -- hit by exposure to the Greek economy -- would push public debt to 140pc of GDP.
