Robert Wild SJ knows how to clap his hands and make child sex abuse disappear

Fr. Wild knows to contemplate his recollection before he answers

Fr Wild knows he can’t remember because he tried so hard to forget…

In our previous post we examined former Chicago Provincial Robert Wild SJ's reaction or inaction when it came to reports of his "mentally unbalanced" priest. Now a year after those reports, in 1991 we have Donald McGuire SJ and Robert Wild SJ talking about the real issue, sexual abuse of children and young men by Don. Fr. Wild decided to let McGuire take a walk on this charge.

In the documents below, Fr. Wild received a call from an alert Christian Brother. In February of 1991, The Chicago Province was contacted by Br. Ricardo Palacio, Director of the Christian Brother Retreat House in St. Helena, California. McGuire had been at the center conducting a retreat to a youth group from Kolbe Academy, a private Catholic school in Napa Valley.

Rather than call the police, Fr. Bob Wild wrote to the abuser and asked him his side of the story, while continuing to allow him to travel with the victim to Mexico.

Father Wild did not conduct any investigation beyond questioning McGuire about this incident. Had Fr. Wild reviewed McGuire's personnel file, he would have found many reports regarding abuse dating back to the 1960s. Our following posts will detail just what was in those files on Fr. Wild's desk.

The pesky Christian Brother refused to go away along with his story of what he knew. In his 2011 deposition the Br. Palacio refutes much of Fr. Wild's statements. Fr. Wild contends that Br. Palacio's phone call was his first notice of any allegation regarding McGuire's sexual abuse of boys. The testimony of Brother Palacio below indicates the opposite. According to Brother Palacio, Fr. Wild told him that the Jesuits had received other reports regarding McGuire's misconduct with minors.

Someone is lying, and if you had read any other story on this site you can bet it would be the Jesuit. Practice mental reservation much Fr. Wild?

Fr. Wild never called the police or conducted any investigation beyond asking McGuire if he rapped children and teenagers. The Jesuits' passion for the truth at its best.

Fr. Wild also testified that no mechanisms were put into place (such as notifying McGuire's Superior at Canisius House or the families of other young boys traveling with McGuire) to insure that the his "Guidelines" (actually suggestions) were followed. McGuire was left to correct himself, a situation that continued for more than a decade and led to disastrous results and many ruined lives for his victims and their families.

But does the Jesuit Order's demand for strict obedience really work?

Here is a preview of what is to come, just a little over a year after Fr. Wild imposed his "guidelines". More lives destroyed and more children rapped.

Just the kind of man any organization would want out and about raising money for them, a man that puts the organization above the safety of a child. But as we conclude this part of Fr. Wild's story later this week, we will see there is nothing more important to Fr. Wild or the Chicago Province Jesuits than money.

Now that I've lost everything to you,

You say you want to start something new,

And it's breaking my heart you're leaving,

Baby I'm grieving.

But if you want to leave take good care,

Hope you have a lot of nice things to wear,

But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there.

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,

It's hard to get by just upon a smile.

Oh baby baby it's a wild world.

I'll always remember you like a child, girl.

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do,

And it's breaking my heart in two,

Cause I never want to see you sad girl,

Don't be a bad girl,

But if you want to leave take good care,

Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there,

But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware,

Beware,

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,

It's hard to get by just upon a smile

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,

And I'll always remember you like a child, girl.

Baby I love you, but if you want to leave take good care,

Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there,

But just remember there's a lot of bad,

And beware, beware,

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,

It's hard to get by just upon a smile.

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,

And I'll always remember you like a child, girl.
