Leaders of SNAP are blasting a Columbia University professor who publicly defended the just-ousted voice of “Elmo,” Kevin Clash, who’s being sued for allegedly molesting a minor.  In Sunday’s N.Y. Times, professor Katherine Franke defends Clash as “the most recent victim” of a “sex panic,” adding that “At precisely the moment when gay people’s right to marry seems to be reaching a positive tipping point, sexuality is being driven back into the closet as something shameful.”  SNAP says, “These callous remarks seem to equate gay sex with pedophilia, which is wrong, hurtful, and irresponsible.”

No, gay sex should not be equated with pedophilia. And “gay marriage” has nothing to do with pedophilia. The problem with “gay marriage” has to do with the essence of marriage and whether marriage can (or, rather, should) be redefined.

But if statistics are available to SNAP as to how often a male child or teen is the victim of a male predator–as opposed to a female child–SNAP should publish those statistics. And SNAP has those statistics.

SNAP knows that girls were not nearly as often the victims in the cases that have so far come to light.

It would also behoove SNAP to begin barking about the 1,200 cases of sexual abuse of boy scouts by their scout masters and to tell the public what percentage of those scout masters were male.

Fair is fair, SNAP, and making known these statistics has nothing to do with homophobia. It has to do with documenting the truth.

The abuse of girls and adult women by “straight” catholic priests was ignored by many in the clergy abuse groups from the beginning. The leaders made a decision to focus on boys. It is known that the catholic hierarchy/clergy sees females as inferior and when one alleges rape or molestation by a priest or catholic male the pat response that has worked for centuries is :”she asked for it” “she (a 5 year old) made him do it” or she (an adult married woman) is a slut..

child rape is an equal opportunity crime…boys, girls, people of color, disability, senior, they all get raped by male & females…

i don’t think that the whole story has been told re: who has been raped and by whom…

be patient as the story is unfolding daily…
