A former Central Catholic High School guidance counselor was arrested this week on drug charges, including possession with intent to deliver, police said.

According to police, detectives had been investigating Kelly Scherer for a lengthy amount of time before arresting her this week.

Investigators said Scherer sold heroin to an undercover narcotics officer out of her Forest Hills apartment on Sumner Avenue.

Authorities said officers found about 150 needles and at least 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin in the apartment where she was arrested.

"This has been an ongoing investigation and this is basically the finale. We're happy to have her in jail and off our streets," Forest Hills police Officer Chuck Williams said.

Scherer was fired from the school following her arrest. She remains in the Allegheny County Jail.

“It was kind of shocking. I talked to Ms. Scherer and I didn’t know that. She seemed like a nice lady,” Central Catholic student Justin Guerriero said.

Central Catholic officials declined to comment on the situation on camera. Instead, they released the following statement via email, “Ms. Scherer was on indefinite suspension from Central Catholic High at the time of her arrest. The suspension was due to unsatisfactory job performance. On Thursday we learned Scherer was being investigated by the police for issues unrelated to her employment at Central Catholic High School.”
