ELMHURST — A former associate pastor at an Elmhurst church was arrested Monday and charged with criminal sexual assault and abuse.

Darin L. Evans, 41, of Dover, Ohio, was charged Monday with 11 counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, Elmhurst police said in a news release.

Evans, a former associate pastor at West Suburban Community Church in Elmhurst, surrendered to police Monday morning, police said.

Elmhurst police began investigating in February 2013 after they were notified of allegations of abuse that took place between 2004 and 2006, police said.

Evans is scheduled to appear in DuPage County Court for a bail hearing Tuesday.
