A 70-year-old former priest who abused two boys more than 30 years ago has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Patrick McCabe pleaded guilty to the offences after he was extradited from California to face the charges almost two years ago.

One child was abused in the parochial house of the pro-cathedral in Dublin, the other at a school in County Kildare.

He was previously jailed last year for indecently assaulting five other boys.

McCabe was laicised in 1988. He left Ireland at that time and moved to the US.

In 2006 Irish police travelled to Almeda in California to question him about these offences.

He was arrested in the US in August 2010 and extradited to Ireland in June 2011.

Following Friday's sentence hearing one of his victims, James Moran, waived his right to anonymity.

He said the abuse had affected every part of his life, his parents, his family and his friends.

He said sentencing had given him some closure after the horrific years.
