William C. Jackson

The former Bible Baptist School music teacher pleaded guilty in Cumberland County court Tuesday to a host of charges filed against him for sexually abusing children at the school.

William C. Jackson, 58, of New Cumberland, pleaded guilty to seven counts of corruption of minors, three counts of institutional sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.

Jackson was charged in September, after a 17-year-old boy told police that Jackson had fondled him, court documents state.

But as police conducted the investigation, Senior Assistant District Attorney Christin Mehrtens-Carlin said the total number of victims increased to seven, coming from six different families.

Following a review from the state’s Sexual Offender Assessment Board, Jackson is scheduled for sentencing July 2. He is subject to a lifetime of Megan’s Law registration.

For the charges to which he pleaded, Jackson faces a maximum sentence of 73 years in prison.

Mehrtens-Carlin told Judge Edward E. Guido that Jackson touched several of the boys’ genitals over their clothing, gave them massages and hugs, and exchanged inappropriate e-mails.

The sexual assaults occurred at the school, often in the music room, between January 2010 and September 2012, Mehrtens-Carlin said in court.

Mehrtens-Carlin said Jackson told the police he knew what he did was wrong.

Jackson is to have no contact with the victims or their families, and is barred from the school’s property.

Jackson's attorney, Karl Rominger, said Jackson plans to read an apology to the victims, their families and the community at his sentencing.
