At 9 p.m., Saturday, lawyer Al Watkins will conduct a debate at Brennan’s Bar in the CWE a on the attributes of a typewriter versus those of the computer.  He will argue on behalf of the typewriter in a strictly structured three-round session.  The crowd picks the winner. . . Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael D’Antonio will discuss his new book at 6:30 p.m., April 18 at Left Bank Books downtown.  Titled “Mortal Sins: Sex Crimes and the Era of Catholic Scandal.”  He has written biographies of famous chocolatier Milton Hershey and ex-boxer and self-taught PGA golfer Esteban Toledo.  The event will benefit SNAP. . .Angela Speck, prof of physics and astronomy at Mizzou, has received the 2013 William T. Kemper Fellowship for teaching and excellence and Mizzou education major Grant Johnson has won the 2013 Hallmark Storytelling Challenge. . .Kudos to Bessie “Ya Ya” Conis on her 97th natal day when she was toasted at Olivette Diner by her daughter and granddaughter, Nicky Antoniou and Nickolette Brennan.  FYI Bessie was a partner in the long-gone and sorely-missed Greek Gourmet restaurant. . .Mensa St. Louis Awards competition will be held April 19-21 at the Airport Marriott.  On the final day, the public is invited to take the official Mensa admission test.  Mensa has 57,000 members in the U.S. of those who score in the top two percent on accepted, standardized intelligence. . .Seen ’round town: photographer extraordinaire Lou Bopp and his wife, Joanne, at Zoe’s I Fratelinni.
