Jersey’s Anglican Dean took his first service yesterday (Sunday) after being suspended for eight weeks.

The Bishop of Winchester Tim Dakin reinstated the Very Reverend Bob Key after saying he was satisfied with his apology.

Dean Bob Key apologised for mistakes in the handling of a complaint which led to his suspension, and added his own apology to the Bishop of Winchester, Archbishop of Canterbury and to the vulnerable parishioner involved.

The Bishop has acknowledged that, although mistakes were made, the Dean believed he was acting in good faith and reinstated The Very Reverend Bob Key with immediate effect.

On Sunday, the Dean took the St Helier service expressing his thanks for the support shown from people in the island.

Throughout the two months during the Dean’s suspension, many islanders campaigned for his reinstatement.

The former Bailiff Senator Sir Philip Bailhache wrote an open letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury expressing his ‘deep dismay’ saying the Bishop made a ‘mistake’.
