Two Catholic school employees are suspended from their jobs after a former student accused them of sexual abuse.

Derek Valcourt has more on the investigation underway at Monsignor Slade Catholic School.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case. But WJZ has learned that it was a child sexual abuse investigation that led police to search the home of one of the school’s assistant principals.

Monsignor Slade in Glen Burnie is school for hundreds of kids in grades K-8.

It’s there Anne Arundel County Police spent part of Tuesday launching an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by two employees.

“We received a complaint from a former student,” said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.

Police, not saying who that student is or who the employees in question are. But the Archdiocese says the sexual abuse is alleged to have occurred at the school in the mid-2000s. So far, no one has been arrested.

“At this point, the investigation is very fluid and active right now and we’re just trying to get to the conclusion of it right now to find out exactly what occurred, if anything,” Lt. Smith said.

The Archdiocese released a written statement, saying they are cooperating fully with police and say their two employees have been suspended until investigators can determine if there’s any truth to the allegations.

Court documents obtained by WJZ show Tuesday police executed a search warrant in reference to child sexual abuse at the Brooklyn Park home of one of the school’s assistant principals, Robert Ritz.

“We saw the FBI was everywhere,” said neighbor Robert Wilson.

Neighbors, stunned to see Ritz led out of the house in handcuffs.

Police say while they were searching Ritz’s 8th Avenue home, they found marijuana and pipes used to smoke it.

“It’s shocking because he’s a good friend, good neighbor, doesn’t bother anybody. It’s hard to believe. Sometimes you just don’t know who your neighbors are,” said Wilson.

Again, no charges have been filed in the sex abuse case.

Assistant Principal Robert Ritz has been charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

School officials sent a letter home to parents at Monsignor Slade alerting them to the police investigation.
