Columbus Diocese Places Priest on Leave Amid Sex Abuse Investigation

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A priest accused of sexual abuse of a minor is on administrative leave as the Columbus Catholic Diocese conducts an investigation into the allegation. Father Ronald Atwood is accused of committing the abuse from 1976 to 1979 while working at Bishop Ready High School, as well as St. Stephen the Martyr and St. Peter parishes, according to a Diocese statement. The allegation was brought to the attention of the Columbus Chancery Office on July 15, then forwarded to Franklin County Children Services. Columbus Bishop Frederick Campbell placed Atwood on leave on July 16, in accordance with Catholic Church policy.
