A Machesney Park man is still in jail this week after being charged with 17 counts of sexual assault and abuse of a child and one count of child pornography possession linked to a 13-year-old girl.

Charles M. Tucker, 45, was arrested July 15 by Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police and is at the Winnebago County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Tucker was employed by North Love Baptist Church in Rockford at the time of the arrest. He was a vehicle mechanic and not involved in church leadership.

Pastor Dan Outler said Tucker no longer works at the church.

“We are deeply grieved at the nature of the accusation and have worked closely with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s detectives and the Department of Children and Family Services to aid in their investigation,” a statement from the church reads. “This event comes as a devastating shock to all of us.”

The statement said Tucker was removed from the church campus when officials heard about the allegations and was terminated pending the outcome of the investigation. It also said church officials are unaware of any specific details related to the charges.

Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro declined to elaborate on the details because the investigation is ongoing.

According to a probable cause statement involving the case, incidents involving Tucker and the victim go back to February 2012. The child pornography charge is related to photos of the victim that Tucker had on his phone, the report said.

Tucker was officially charged with five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, 12 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of child pornography. He returns to court on Aug. 21.
