Police reports are providing new information in the case of a youth pastor charged with sexual abuse.

Ryan McKelvey, 27, is charged with two counts of sexual abuse and two counts of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist after police said two girls in his congregation came forward with allegations of abuse.

Police reports said at first the 16-year-old girl didn't provide much detail about what happened, but has now added more details to her account of what happened.

She told police she knew Ryan KcKelvey for two years and trusted and confided in him because he was her youth pastor at Heritage Assembly of God.

"When it involves somebody in a position such as clergy or a therapist or a counselor, it is more shocking," said Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Dan Blom.

The 16-year-old told detectives McKelvey often came on to her aggressively like on July 18 when she said he began kissing her and forcing her to rub him when the two were alone inside his car.

She said she felt "totally confused" but he made her feel "special."

Police reports show the girl told police one incident happened at McKelvey's home. The girl told police it happened when his wife was in the other room taking nap.

The girl told police that McKelvey told her "if you tell anyone you won't be able to be a part of the ministry."

McKelvey remains in the Polk County Jail. His home was empty on Thursday except for a moving truck in the driveway.

The Polk County Attorney has filed a no contact order on behalf of the two girls in the case. McKelvey is ordered to not only stay away from the girls, but also stay away from anyone under the age of 18.
